From Short to sound file

Shorts move fast: a sound catches your ear, the next swipe and it’s gone. Paste the Short’s link above and the converter treats it like any other YouTube video: it reads the audio, shows a preview and lets you save it as MP3 (64–320 kbps), M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG or OPUS.

How to convert a YouTube Short to MP3

  1. Open the Short in the YouTube app or on the web.
  2. Tap Share → Copy link. It will look like youtube.com/shorts/AbC123xyz.
  3. Paste it into the box at the top and press Convert to MP3.
  4. Tap Play preview to check the sound, choose a bitrate and press Download MP3.

Which quality makes sense for Shorts?

Shorts are short and their audio is usually compressed for mobile, so you rarely need the maximum.

Use Suggested format One-minute file
Ringtone or notification sound MP3 128 kbps about 1 MB
Listening on your phone MP3 192 kbps about 1.4 MB
Editing in CapCut, InShot or Premiere WAV about 10 MB
Keeping the exact original stream M4A about 1 MB

The full mix vs. the original song

A Short’s audio is often a mix: the creator’s voice, sound effects and a clip of a song. Our converter saves exactly what you hear. If you’re after the original song:

  • Tap the sound name at the bottom of the Short. YouTube shows the original track and other Shorts that use it.
  • Open the original track’s video and convert that link instead for the full song without voice-over.
  • Check the description: creators often credit the music there.

Make a ringtone from a Short

  1. Convert the Short to MP3 128 kbps.
  2. Android: move the MP3 to the Ringtones or Notifications folder (or pick it in Settings → Sound → Ringtone → “+” or “From files”).
  3. iPhone: iOS needs ringtones in .m4r format, made with GarageBand on the phone or with a computer. Save as M4A, import it into GarageBand, trim to 30 seconds or less, and share it as a ringtone.

Using Shorts audio fairly

Many Shorts use copyrighted songs licensed only inside YouTube. Saving a sound to listen to privately is different from re-uploading it in your own content. For your videos:

  • use YouTube’s built-in Remix / Use this sound feature, which handles licensing inside YouTube,
  • pick music from the YouTube Audio Library or other royalty-free libraries,
  • or record your own audio.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How do I copy a YouTube Shorts link?

In the YouTube app, open the Short, tap the three dots or the Share arrow, then Copy link. The link looks like youtube.com/shorts/ followed by a code.

Will the MP3 contain only the music?

No, the MP3 contains the Short's full soundtrack, including any voice-over or effects mixed in by the creator. To get only the song, open the sound label at the bottom of the Short and look for the original track.

How long is an MP3 from a Short?

As long as the Short itself, up to three minutes. At 192 kbps a one-minute Short is about 1.4 MB.

Can I use Shorts audio in my own videos?

Only if you have permission. YouTube's own Remix feature lets you reuse many Shorts sounds inside YouTube. Outside YouTube, copyrighted songs need a licence; use royalty-free music or your own recordings instead.

Can I save a Short as a video instead?

Yes. The result card also offers MP4 files under 'Need the video instead?'.
